Accidental
scenarios are determined based
on hazard identification,
screening and Petrellus’ industry
experience. Based on the Clients’ risk criteria, Petrellus
Engineering determines
Design
Accidental
Loads; additionally, we can assist the operating companies to determine the risk
criteria. If the risk of a planned activity is higher than the tolerable risk
we
normally:
1.
Review the plant to assess the possibility that, using the latest
techniques, we are able to show that the existing design is already adequate to
eliminate or reduce the likelihood of hazards.
2.
Critically examine potential failure causes of plant components.
3.
Suggest an alternative design concept.
4.
Determine design accidental loads.
5.
Optimise an alternative design concept so that a satisfactory solution is
achieved at lowest possible cost.
In this process, solutions that reduce the probability of an incident occurring have a priority over solutions to mitigate the consequences/effects of incidents.
